Borates are recognized as being the most effective “green” wood preservatives that are available. Shell-Guard is a borate wood preservative that is colorless, odorless and has a very low toxicity to people and pets.

It is effective for preventing and eliminating wood decay and wood destroying insect infestations in exterior and interior wood members. Shell-Guard concentrate makes wood toxic to wood destroying organisms!

Application Temperature	40° to 90°
Application Methods	Low pressure sprayer Brush Drill holes and inject
Surface Preparation	Clean and dry Bare wood Free of mold and mildew
Frequency	Permanent in wood that is kept sealed
Special Instructions	One coat application Rinse surface before finishing
Drying Time	1-4 weeks, depending on weather conditions Recommend 2 weeks, then lightly wash with Log Wash Surface must be dry to the touch (free of residue) before finishing

I am a design/builder. My client, a lifelong friend, and I used Shell- Guard around the entire perimeter of his new heavy-timber framed 3,500 sf home in the dense woods of central Illinois. Knowing that changing planting zones, increase of invasive species and potential longer breeding seasons for wood attacking pests is a real potential there, he wanted state-of-the-art protection. He rests assured this Perma-Chink product provides that peace of mind. Thank you. I will continnue to recommend and use the whole line of products.

I had a concern about an ongoing active powder post beetle problem, and contacted Perma-Chink. The representative explained that while there was a 2-3 week wait while the borate penetrated into the logs, the concentrate delivered a slightly higher level of borate wood preservative and it would take care of the problem. Well worth the wait!
